Job Opportunity: Automation and Process Controls Specialist
KL Talent Solutions is seeking an experienced individual for our client with a background in heavy industry, particularly in automation and process controls. This key role within the Maintenance Department involves working alongside the Mechanical Engineer and reporting to the Site Engineering and Site Services Business Unit Manager. This hands-on position focuses on continuous improvement, supporting both the Engineering and Operations teams. Responsibilities also include support for design and specification aspects on new Capital Projects, process improvements, or re-engineering existing systems. Additionally, you will provide support to Electrical, Mechanical, and Multi-skilled technicians for servicing and fault finding on existing systems and equipment.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Supervise and carry out maintenance work activities to ensure the long-term availability of all plant assets, preserve their value, and meet Health, Safety, and Environmental obligations along with financial targets.
- Efficiently plan and execute all electrical maintenance activities, working closely with the Engineering Manager to ensure productivity at all client sites.
- Supervise a team of technicians and occasionally contractors, ensuring high performance standards in electrical planned, preventive, and reactive maintenance, problem diagnosis, corrective action, repair, replacement, and testing of site equipment and systems.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns across all client sites during normal hours and, if required, outside normal working hours, demonstrating a commitment to flexible working practices to meet operational and maintenance requirements.
- Control, maintain, and repair all PLC, SCADA, HMI, and Drives across client sites, including managing critical spares, program backups, site training, and development.
- Attend meetings via Teams and face-to-face with maintenance and production departments to review workload and plan corrective actions. Provide feedback and data entry to establish maintenance KPIs for managerial meetings. Assist the Engineering Manager in creating and maintaining department budgets and finance objectives.
- Participate in various continuous improvement activities across the site.
- Establish and enforce expectations related to safety, compliance, corrective actions, and appropriate work behaviours, maintaining and improving the highest standards of Health and Safety within the working environment.
Skills and Experience:
- Minimum HNC, preferred Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
- At least 5 years’ experience in heavy industry with supervisory experience.
- Proficiency in PLC / SCADA / HMI / DRIVES to enable testing, repair, commissioning, programming, and fault finding, including Siemens S7, RS Logix, Allen Bradley, Compact Logix 5000 & 500, and Mitsubishi Processors.
- Experience in the installation of electrical control systems including AC / DC drives, variable frequency drives, and closed loop control with positioning systems.
- Experience with monitoring equipment, installation, and commissioning of vibration and temperature detection systems.
- Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and CMM Systems (Synchro).
- Ability to coordinate and supervise work activities for Electrical, Multiskilled, and contractor personnel.
- Competence in reading electrical drawings, process, and control diagrams.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
