KL Talent Solutions is seeking an experienced individual for our client who has a strong background in heavy industry, with expertise in automation and process controls. This key role within the Maintenance Department will report to the Engineering Manager and involve planning and organising a team of Multiskilled Maintenance Engineers. This is a hands-on position with a strong focus on continuous improvement, supporting both the Engineering and Operations teams. You will also lead design and specification efforts for new capital projects, process improvements, and the re-engineering of existing systems. Additionally, you will provide support to Electrical, Mechanical, and Multiskilled technicians to service and troubleshoot existing systems and equipment.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Supervise and carry out maintenance work activities to ensure the long-term availability of all plant assets, while meeting Health, Safety, and Environmental obligations along with financial targets.
- Plan and execute all electrical maintenance activities efficiently, working closely with the Engineering Manager to enhance productivity across the site.
- Supervise a team of Technicians and, when required, contractors, ensuring high performance in planned, preventive, and reactive maintenance, problem diagnosis, corrective action, repair, replacement, and testing of site equipment and systems.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns during normal hours and, when required, outside of normal working hours, demonstrating flexibility to meet operational and maintenance needs.
- Oversee the control, maintenance, and repair of all PLC, SCADA, HMI, and Drives, including managing critical spares, program backups, site training, and development.
- Participate in daily meetings with maintenance and production teams to review workloads and plan corrective actions. Provide feedback and input for maintenance KPIs displayed on dashboards for managerial reviews.
- Assist the Engineering Manager in creating and maintaining departmental budgets and financial objectives.
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
- Set and enforce expectations related to safety, compliance, corrective actions, and work behaviors while maintaining and improving the highest Health and Safety standards.
The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:
- Minimum HNC qualification, with a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in heavy industry, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Proficiency in PLC / SCADA / HMI / DRIVES for testing, repair, commissioning, programming, and fault finding, including Siemens S7, RS Logix, Allen Bradley, Compact Logix 5000 & 500, and Mitsubishi Processors.
- Experience in installing electrical control systems, including AC/DC drives, variable frequency drives, and closed-loop control with positioning systems.
- Familiarity with monitoring equipment, including installation and commissioning of vibration and temperature detection systems.
- Competence in using computer software such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and CMM Systems (e.g., Synchro).
- Ability to coordinate and supervise work activities for Electrical, Multiskilled, and contractor personnel.
- Proficiency in reading electrical drawings, process, and control diagrams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
